EMISSION MONITORING IN BOILERS AND FURNACES

PROCESS:  In every combustion system, a fuel and air mixture is burned inside the combustion chamber. All liquid, solid, and gas fuels are basically hydrocarbons, and the process of burning results into production of various air pollutants. Especially uncontrolled combustion produces a high concentration of pollutants.  These pollutants damage the environment and are harmful to the population as well as the vegetation in the nearby areas where such plants are located.

It is very important that pollutants like CO, NO, NO2, SO2, HC, H2S, and to some extent, CO2, need to be monitored, so that they can be controlled later. Pollution Control Board has certain norms, and industries have to adhere to such norms and regulate the hazardous emissions, released from their exhausts.

MEASUREMENT:  In the combustion exhaust, gases like CO, NO, NO2, SO2, HC are to be measured in the stack, of all burning processes in boilers, furnaces, incinerators, and heaters.
SOLUTION: testo340 and testo350 with 4 and 6 sensors can be used in this application, depending on the no of gases to be measured by the client, and the other process conditions.

Testo's measurement technology guarantees safe food

testo 104-IR, the new temperature measuring instrument, fulfils the two most important functions for measuring the temperature of food: non-contact measurement with an infrared sensor and contact measurement with a penetration probe - all in one single instrument.

The infrared sensor measures surface temperature without contact, quickly and reliably. This means, for example, that supermarket employees can check very quickly whether goods that have just been delivered by truck are at the right temperature. They can scan individual products or entire goods pallets within seconds. If a temperature limit value is exceeded, the penetration probe can be folded out and the product's core temperature measured for safety purposes. "There is no longer any doubt as to whether a foodstuff subsequently destined for consumption is at the correct temperature", explains Product Manager at Testo AG. What makes the testo 104-IR so unique is that it performs two functions, but is so compact. The probe can be easily folded up once the job is finished, so it will fit into any jacket pocket. Where necessary, the instrument can be cleaned under running water, thus complying with the standard hygienic conditions when dealing with foodstuffs.

Therefore, the most important technical functions of the testo 104-IR are not only its clever "one product, two purposes" feature, but also its high level of measurement accuracy. Its 2-point laser with 10:1 optics guarantees that users will make no mistakes when carrying out measurements. This is because the two laser points mark the position to be measured precisely. The robust design and folding joint make the testo 104-IR a reliable temperature measuring instrument that is ideal for everyday use, for incoming goods, in the warehouse, in cold storage or in an industrial kitchen.

"This device actually makes complying with all the food safety standards such as HACCP or EN13485 fun", explains Matthias Germer. "As soon as the probe is opened up, the display is activated and I can start measuring straight away. Also the laser responds to the touch of a button". The testo 104-IR is so practical and intuitive to use that it is not even necessary for personnel to undertake extensive training beforehand. Which saves both time and costs.

In conclusion, the testo 104-IR can be used in the food sector wherever there is a requirement for temperature to be measured quickly and easily and, in case of any doubt, confirmed reliably. Users will have everything they need in terms of measurement technology to be able to supply consumers with exclusively top-quality goods every single time.

App for the next generation of digital manifolds: the new testo 557 and testo 550.

PUNE, Better performance, precision, convenience: Testo fulfils the increased markets demands and raises the efficiency bar yet again with the new generation of digital manifolds. The highlight is the App for wireless integration of mobile devices into the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557. The new entry-level model testo 549, with its attractive price-performance ratio, is intended to convince analog users of the advantages of digital manifolds.

Bluetooth and App allow the user new possibilities for convenient analysis and documentation. Wireless transmission technology with the App provides added convenience and economy, especially when working in difficult-to-access places or on large plants.

Connectivity and convenience thanks to App
The App connects Android and iOS mobile instruments to the testo 550 and testo 557 manifolds via Bluetooth. Via the App connection, the measurement data can be comfortably read off on a Smartphone. The user can update the 60 stored refrigerants directly on site. The measurement data can be finalized in the App, and sent by e-mail. This saves considerable time for the user, providing a convenient increase of flexibility.

Comprehensive optimization for increasing demands
The App for the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557 is one of many new developments with which Testo are once again meeting the requirements of the market, and underlining their expertise in refrigeration. A further highlight is the the Pirani probe developed by Testo for the new testo 557, which allows highly precise vacuum measurements.

The new generation is more robust than ever, for example thanks to an additional metal frame for the display. Apart from this, all digital manifolds are now water- and dirt-resistant according to protection class IP42. Among other steps for more secure operation is a menu structure which has been further simplified and extended by automatic functions. For instance, the testo 557 automatically selects the evacuation mode as soon as the user connects the new Pirani probe. The external probe is an example of the increased performance of the new manifolds: the measuring range has been extended to 60 bar, and the battery life increased to 250 hours. With the new generation, 60 common refrigerants are now stored in the manifold.

For users at all levels
While the testo 557 is suitable for the servicing and commissioning of refrigeration systems, the testo 550 is intended for simple service on refrigeration systems. Both have the possibility of sending the data by Bluetooth to a mobile device, where they can be read, evaluated and documented in an App. Reporting by e-mail is also possible with this App.

Digital is better value
With the newest generation, Testo has further optimized the price-performance ratio of digital manifolds. With the testo 549 in particular, the company is addressing user who are  still operating analog instruments. However, more than the attractive entry-level price, it is the product advantages which are in the foreground of communication: The testo 549 fulfils all the daily requirements in refrigeration contracting. The user can measure different operating parameters with only one instrument, and obtains a comprehensive real-time overview of the status of a refrigeration system or heat pump. This fast and reliable test not only saves costs – it also makes your work considerably more efficient.

Because every drop is valuable – the new cooking oil tester testo 270

With the testo 270, Testo AG launches the new generation of their proven cooking oil tester testo 270 onto the market. With it, the measurement technology specialist from the Black Forest enables the quality of cooking oil to be determined even faster. This ensures the quality of deep-fried foods, and reduces expenditure for cooking oil by up to 20 %.

The cooking oil tester testo 270 measures the Total Polar Material (TPM) content in the cooking oil, which is a sure indicator of its quality. This is the reason why the polar materials may not exceed a certain limit, depending on the country. Cooking oil develops its best potential between 14 and 20 % TPM. If the oil is too old, it shows an increased TPM value, and deep-fried goods of inferior quality are produced. It can furthermore contain substances which present a risk to health. Regular measurement with the testo 270 prevents this. The use of the measuring instrument also prevents the wastage of cooking oil due to too early replacement. It reduces cooking oil consumption by up to 20 %.

Safety in daily use
The strength of the probe shaft has been considerably improved over the previous model. In addition to this, the new cooking oil tester has more robust connections between the housing, the probe shaft and the sensor. Since the measuring instrument fulfils the protection class IP65 even without an additional protective case, cleaning it under running water is no problem – ideal for use in quick-service restaurants.

However the most obvious feature of the new testo 270 is its ergonomic design. This has the advantage that the user is no longer directly exposed to the the heat from the deep-fryer when taking the measurement, allowing him to work more safely.

Even more intuitive thanks to traffic light system
The measuring instrument's 86% larger display considerably simplifies the reading of temperature and TPM values. The unmistakeable alarm provided by multi-colour backlighting makes it even easier to evaluate the quality of the cooking oil: Green means that the TPM content is below the set limit value, orange is close to it, and when the display lights up red, the limit value has been exceeded.

Significantly reduces costs
Extensive practical tests by Testo engineers have demonstrated that regular measurementwith the testo 270 reduces the consumption of cooking oil by up tp 20 %. With a consumption of 1,000 litres per year and assuming a price of 0.70 € per litre, this allows 1,680 € to be saved annually.
