Ventilation and Air Conditioning Measurement Technology from Testo

VAC measuring instruments from Testo provide the highest level of precision from 0.01 m/s to 9999 m3/h. For any air conditioning and ventilation professional, measuring flow velocity accurately is not easy. Whether for the precise determination of volume flow, quick spot measurements in ducts or recording turbulent flows at outlets – without suitable measuring instruments, it is impossible to ensure optimum indoor air in residential and non-residential buildings

For this reason, Testo offers the optimum solution for every measurement task and measurement range: whether thermal probes, vane anemometers, differential pressure measuring instruments or multifunction instruments. Our patented flow straighteners provide added precision, even in turbulence at outlets. Find information now on how to measure flow velocity more efficiently.

Accurate measurement in ducts

You obtain the most accurate results when you measure directly in the duct. To compensate non-homogenous flows, a grid measurement is recommended. For this purpose, you determine the flow velocity values at several points in the duct cross-section, enter the cross-section dimensions – and your ventilationmeasuring instrument from Testo calculates the mean value and the volume flow for you automatically and reliably.

Precise measurement at outlets

If the ventilation duct is inaccessible, the measurement takes place directly at the outlet. In adjustment work too, the air input and output is tested where the air flows into the room. However, turbulent flows at swirl and plate outlets can severely falsify your measurement results. For this reason, we recommend the use of funnel measuring instruments with a flow straightener (testo 420, testo 417 set 2).

Multifunctional measurement in ducts and at outlets

Multifunction measuring instruments give you as a VAC professional maximum flexibility. The multifunction VAC measuring instruments testo 435-4 and testo 480 can be extended with various probes. In addition to flow velocity, volume flow, temperature and humidity, you measure absolute and differential pressure, light intensity, radiated heat, degree of turbulence and CO2 concentration – with only one instrument.

App for the next generation of digital manifolds: the new testo 557 and testo 550.

The app for wireless integration of mobile devices into the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557. The new entry-level model testo 549, with its attractive price-performance ratio.

Better performance, precision, convenience: Testo fulfils the increased markets demands and raises the efficiency bar yet again with the new generation of digital manifolds. The highlight is the App for wireless integration of mobile devices into the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557. The new entry-level model testo 549, with its attractive price-performance ratio, is intended to convince analog users of the advantages of digital manifolds.

Bluetooth and App allow the user new possibilities for convenient analysis and documentation. Wireless transmission technology with the App provides added convenience and economy, especially when working in difficult-to-access places or on large plants.

Connectivity and convenience thanks to App

The App connects Android and iOS mobile instruments to the testo 550 and testo 557 manifolds via Bluetooth. Via the App connection, the measurement data can be comfortably read off on a Smartphone. The user can update the 60 stored refrigerants directly on site. The measurement data can be finalized in the App, and sent by e-mail. This saves considerable time for the user, providing a convenient increase of flexibility.

Comprehensive optimization for increasing demands

The App for the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557 is one of many new developments with which Testo are once again meeting the requirements of the market, and underlining their expertise in refrigeration. A further highlight is the the Pirani probe developed by Testo for the new testo557, which allows highly precise vacuum measurements.

The new generation is more robust than ever, for example thanks to an additional metal frame for the display. Apart from this, all digital manifolds are now water- and dirt-resistant according to protection class IP42. Among other steps for more secure operation is a menu structure which has been further simplified and extended by automatic functions. For instance, the testo 557 automatically selects the evacuation mode as soon as the user connects the new Pirani probe. The external probe is an example of the increased performance of the new manifolds: the measuring range has been extended to 60 bar, and the battery life increased to 250 hours. With the new generation, 60 common refrigerants are now stored in the manifold.

For users at all levels

While the testo 557 is suitable for the servicing and commissioning of refrigeration systems, the testo 550 is intended for simple service on refrigeration systems. Both have the possibility of sending the data by Bluetooth to a mobile device, where they can be read, evaluated and documented in an App. Reporting by e-mail is also possible with this App.

Digital is better value

With the newest generation, Testo has further optimized the price-performance ratio of digital manifolds. With the testo 549 in particular, the company is addressing user who are still operating analog instruments. However, more than the attractive entry-level price, it is the product advantages which are in the foreground of communication: The testo 549 fulfils all the daily requirements in refrigeration contracting. The user can measure different operating parameters with only one instrument, and obtains a comprehensive real-time overview of the status of a refrigeration system or heat pump. This fast and reliable test not only saves costs – it also makes your work considerably more efficient.

Secure monitoring of indoor climate values in central functional units in industrial companies – with testo Saveris 2.

As the facility manager of an industrial company, you carry a large responsibility for a number of business critical processes. It is your job to guarantee the technical availability of the systems. If breakdowns of central functional units, such as the air conditioning system, for example, are identified too late, they can cause heat damage to products and machines, resulting in high follow-on costs for the company.

For this reason, the monitoring of ambient parameters such as temperature and humidity is an important indicator for threatening, and already occurring, malfunctions in technical systems. With the automatic WiFi data logger system testo Saveris 2, Testo provides the possibility of measuring ambient data automatically, even at difficult-toaccess locations, and of centralizing them in one system.

Assemblies, air conditioning systems, heating systems, switching cabinets, system components and much more: In order for the overall technical process in an
industrial company to function smoothly, you as the facility manager have to monitor ambient values at many different measurement locations. Some of the measurement locations are difficult to access and are far apart. In a daily business characterized by time-pressure and the processing of malfunctions, it is hardly possible to manage the continuous monitoring of all areas of responsibility which involve a level of risk. This often leads to malfunctions being identified too late. On top of this, as a facility manager you have up to now not been able to be certain of always being right there where you are needed most.

The WiFi data logger system testo Saveris 2, on the other hand, saves the facility manager time, trips and nerves. It very simply assists you in keeping the many measurement locations under control. The alarm function allows roundthe-clock fast reactions to undesired changes in the ambient conditions. For example, temperature measurement on a motor can indicate that it is overheating before an expensive breakdown occurs.

A crucial advantage of testo Saveris 2 is its Cloud-based function. The WiFi data loggers transmit the measurement data automatically by wireless LAN to the online data store (Testo Cloud). The values can be called up anywhere and at all times by PC, Smartphone or tablet. This makes it possible to keep an eye on the temperature and humidity values at the various measurement sites, even in different buildings, without any effort. Bothersome and timeconsuming trips to read out the measurement values are no longer necessary.

Precise measurement of volume flows in public and commercial buildings with the volume flow hood testo 420.

For humans to feel comfortable in a room, the air quality, among other factors, must be ensured. Assuming closed rooms, this quality results from the volume flows of the installed VAC system. In order to respect the regulations for Indoor Air Quality, regular checking of the total volume flow of the VAC system is necessary. It is not uncommon for an air conditioning technician to conduct up to fifty measurements at different air outlets in several rooms.

The extra-light and convenient volume flow hood testo 420 simplifies these measurements enormously. And, thanks to an integrated flow straightener, also allows a more precise measurement result to be achieved at larger swirl outlets.

The volume flow hood testo 420 sets new standards regarding weight and precision. With only 2.9 kg and ergonomic handles, frequent or difficult measurements too, can be carried out comfortably, without inducing fatigue, and therefore safely. And the innovative flow straightener converts the turbulence at the swirl outlets into an almost uniform air flow, leading to a considerably more accurate measurement. In addition to this, the hood records the ambient climate using an integrated temperature and humidity sensor as well as an absolute pressure sensor.

Precise measurement at outlets with Testo measuring instruments

Testo measurement technology provides reliable results even at swirl outlets.

The quality of the indoor air depends crucially on whether the air input or output volume flows are optimally adjusted. For this reason, the measurement is taken directly at the outlet during adjustment work. However, inaccessible ventilation ducts also make measurements at outlets necessary.

At swirl and plate outlets or ventilation grilles however, turbulence is created, which can falsify the measurement results.

In order to be able to measure these non-uniform flow profiles, it is essential that a funnel measuring instrument with a flow straightener is used. Patented volume flow straighteners from Testo guarantee the greatest level of accuracy, even in strong air turbulence.

Highest accuracy even in turbulence
