Automatic Monitoring & Documentation of Temperatures in Food Cold Chain with Testo Wi-Fi Data Logger

If it is about food, then it goes without saying that only hygienically immaculate goods are expected by the consumers. Undoubtedly, being the basic necessity of life good quality food stuffs is the highest priority for all consumers, food suppliers and manufactures. Be it vegetables, meat and sausages, poultry or dairy products- no one in the entire cold chain simply can afford bad quality because the customers would not accept damaged products.

Impediments to Safe & quality food throughout the supply chain
Right from farm to fork, there are many hindrances in supplying good quality food products - in Storage, transportation and other stages of supply chain. Firstly, the appearance of food items should be fresh and appetizing and not just that but the food also needs to be hygienically immaculate - More so with the perishable goods. For example, when the cold chain is interrupted and the foods are exposed to excessively high temperatures over a longer period. And secondly, because guidelines such as the HACCP concept must be strictly adhered to in order to eliminate risk factors.

This means that foods must be stored continuously at defined temperature limit values, typically at least -18 °C for deep-frozen goods and +4 °C to +8 °C in the refrigerated range. If refrigeration temperatures are not adhered to, leading to the sale of spoilt foods, there is a threat of considerable economic damage. All this often results due to failure or poor monitoring systems.
Conventional measurement data monitoring systems do automate monitoring. However, for this area of application they are often too complex, need time consuming installation, above all one person is always responsible for collecting the data and documenting them, by hand or electronically. Another setback surfaces due to the lack of warning and intimation features.

A Step ahead of Conventions
Considering the preferences of consumers, the indispensable norms that are to be followed and the quality level that has to be maintained, testo provides a superior alternative that can be easily induced in entire food monitoring system and supply chain, called as testo Saveris 2 - WiFi data loggers.

Carry out Norm-compliant VAC Grid Measurement-with the Multi-function Measuring Instrument Testo 480

In order to be able to guarantee the error-free and energy-efficient performance of a VAC system, the correct adjustment of the total volume flow must be proven. In an incorrectly adjusted system, the indoor air quality deteriorates, which can negatively influence the health of the staff or production quality. This is why is important that in approval testing or when servicing a system, VAC technicians carry out a reliable, but also ve+ry complex VAC grid measurement according to EN 12599.

With the multi-function measuring instrument testo 480, Testo greatly simplifies VAC grid measurement – offering VAC constructors, assessors and facility managers a guided measurement program for norm-compliant results, as well as a large selection of highly accurate probes for the various requirements of the measurement.

Whether a VAC system fulfils the prescribed total volume flow, thus guaranteeing the required indoor climate, must be tested and proven according to the extensive guidelines of EN 12599 in approval testing and when servicing. As the flow profile in the duct rarely corresponds to the ideal shape (laminar/turbulent), and since the velocity profile can be extreme depending on the distance to the next source of interference, a grid measurement offers the safest method of correctly calculating volume flow. However, this form of measurement is very complex, and depending on the shape size of the duct, requires different measuring instruments and procedures – in rectangular ducts the trivial method, for example, and in round ducts the centroidal axis method. In addition to this, errors are more likely in grid measurement. There are various causes for this, ranging from influences at the measurement location up to errors in the conversion calculations of results.

With the multi-function measuring instrument testo 480, you conduct VAC grid measurements norm-compliantly according to EN 12599. With an integrated measurement program, the instrument guides you step by step through the entire measurement process, and offers a number of highly accurate probes such as thermal probes, vane probes or Pitot tubes – for low, medium or high flow velocities and different duct shapes. Thanks to the intelligent calibration concept, the probes notify the measuring instrument as soon the next calibration is due. Digital probes can even be calibrated without the hand instrument, allowing the uninterrupted use of the testo 480.

The measurement procedure is structured and simple:. First you enter the necessary parameters, such as duct geometry, distance from the edge or aperture position of the measurement location, into the menu. You then start the measurement program, whose graphic support guides you reliably and quickly through the measurement. The different measurement points in the duct are approached sequentially according to their coordinates. After the end of the measurement, the mean values as well as the uncertainties for flow velocity and volume flow are automatically calculated and displayed. This allows the total uncertainty to be directly evaluated without any additional measurements. With the testo 480, you are prepared for everything, you work quickly, obtain error-free measurement results, and can present them to your customers directly on site.

Ventilation and Air Conditioning Measurement Technology from Testo

VAC measuring instruments from Testo provide the highest level of precision from 0.01 m/s to 9999 m3/h. For any air conditioning and ventilation professional, measuring flow velocity accurately is not easy. Whether for the precise determination of volume flow, quick spot measurements in ducts or recording turbulent flows at outlets – without suitable measuring instruments, it is impossible to ensure optimum indoor air in residential and non-residential buildings

For this reason, Testo offers the optimum solution for every measurement task and measurement range: whether thermal probes, vane anemometers, differential pressure measuring instruments or multifunction instruments. Our patented flow straighteners provide added precision, even in turbulence at outlets. Find information now on how to measure flow velocity more efficiently.

Accurate measurement in ducts

You obtain the most accurate results when you measure directly in the duct. To compensate non-homogenous flows, a grid measurement is recommended. For this purpose, you determine the flow velocity values at several points in the duct cross-section, enter the cross-section dimensions – and your ventilationmeasuring instrument from Testo calculates the mean value and the volume flow for you automatically and reliably.

Precise measurement at outlets

If the ventilation duct is inaccessible, the measurement takes place directly at the outlet. In adjustment work too, the air input and output is tested where the air flows into the room. However, turbulent flows at swirl and plate outlets can severely falsify your measurement results. For this reason, we recommend the use of funnel measuring instruments with a flow straightener (testo 420, testo 417 set 2).

Multifunctional measurement in ducts and at outlets

Multifunction measuring instruments give you as a VAC professional maximum flexibility. The multifunction VAC measuring instruments testo 435-4 and testo 480 can be extended with various probes. In addition to flow velocity, volume flow, temperature and humidity, you measure absolute and differential pressure, light intensity, radiated heat, degree of turbulence and CO2 concentration – with only one instrument.

App for the next generation of digital manifolds: the new testo 557 and testo 550.

The app for wireless integration of mobile devices into the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557. The new entry-level model testo 549, with its attractive price-performance ratio.

Better performance, precision, convenience: Testo fulfils the increased markets demands and raises the efficiency bar yet again with the new generation of digital manifolds. The highlight is the App for wireless integration of mobile devices into the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557. The new entry-level model testo 549, with its attractive price-performance ratio, is intended to convince analog users of the advantages of digital manifolds.

Bluetooth and App allow the user new possibilities for convenient analysis and documentation. Wireless transmission technology with the App provides added convenience and economy, especially when working in difficult-to-access places or on large plants.

Connectivity and convenience thanks to App

The App connects Android and iOS mobile instruments to the testo 550 and testo 557 manifolds via Bluetooth. Via the App connection, the measurement data can be comfortably read off on a Smartphone. The user can update the 60 stored refrigerants directly on site. The measurement data can be finalized in the App, and sent by e-mail. This saves considerable time for the user, providing a convenient increase of flexibility.

Comprehensive optimization for increasing demands

The App for the new manifolds testo 550 and testo 557 is one of many new developments with which Testo are once again meeting the requirements of the market, and underlining their expertise in refrigeration. A further highlight is the the Pirani probe developed by Testo for the new testo557, which allows highly precise vacuum measurements.

The new generation is more robust than ever, for example thanks to an additional metal frame for the display. Apart from this, all digital manifolds are now water- and dirt-resistant according to protection class IP42. Among other steps for more secure operation is a menu structure which has been further simplified and extended by automatic functions. For instance, the testo 557 automatically selects the evacuation mode as soon as the user connects the new Pirani probe. The external probe is an example of the increased performance of the new manifolds: the measuring range has been extended to 60 bar, and the battery life increased to 250 hours. With the new generation, 60 common refrigerants are now stored in the manifold.

For users at all levels

While the testo 557 is suitable for the servicing and commissioning of refrigeration systems, the testo 550 is intended for simple service on refrigeration systems. Both have the possibility of sending the data by Bluetooth to a mobile device, where they can be read, evaluated and documented in an App. Reporting by e-mail is also possible with this App.

Digital is better value

With the newest generation, Testo has further optimized the price-performance ratio of digital manifolds. With the testo 549 in particular, the company is addressing user who are still operating analog instruments. However, more than the attractive entry-level price, it is the product advantages which are in the foreground of communication: The testo 549 fulfils all the daily requirements in refrigeration contracting. The user can measure different operating parameters with only one instrument, and obtains a comprehensive real-time overview of the status of a refrigeration system or heat pump. This fast and reliable test not only saves costs – it also makes your work considerably more efficient.
